Moonglow Duo

Moonglow music

is warm, lyrical, textured and familiar.  It works perfectly for a dinner,  reception, cocktails  or wine tasting, where people are conversing or eating.  Or, in an intimate setting, our music can accompany dancing.  We like to play ballads from the Swing Era, by composers such as Ellington, Strayhorn, Richard Rogers, Cole Porter and Johnny Mandel.  On the Latin side, we go in for the cool Brazilian strains of Jobim and Jacob do Bandolim.

Both songs performed & recorded by Candace & Steve were written by Cole Porter.

Steve della Maggiora and Candace English met in Sonoma County in 2010, and we began playing music together almost immediately.  Over time, we’ve put together a repertoire of tasteful, romantic tunes, with our own arrangements for violin and guitar.  By clicking on the playback arrow in the box above, you can hear some examples of our duo playing some Cole Porter standards.  You’ll hear how our music engages the ear, for those who want to come close and listen; but it is also discreet and subtle enough to create a beautiful ambiance for those who prefer conversation.

“My wife Jessica and I got married August 6, 2011 at the Faculty Club in Berkeley, CA. The day went absolutely perfectly, and the music was no exception. We requested that when everyone was walking down the aisle “All I Ask of You” from the Phantom of the Opera be played (it is my favorite song from my favorite musical). It was beautiful, and it set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. It made me very emotional because of how wonderful an arrangement it was (yes, I did cry a bit). When Jessica walked down the aisle, we requested “Moon River” because that is Jessica’s favorite song. It too, was a beautiful arrangement.
Candace and her crew were extremely professional…they showed up on time, played wonderful songs while guests were arriving, and then left once the reception was over. No fuss, no problems, just absolutely gorgeous music. I am not exaggerating when I say I can still hear their rendition of “All I Ask of You”…it was that beautiful. I highly recommend their services! ~Kevin Kahn
